[edit] Critical Design Components (IMU, Digital Compass, Altimeter)

The following sensors are included in the design of Bearacuda:

To be used for measuring yaw, pitch, roll, and acceleration in all x,y,z directions. From this, with a little processing, velocity and distance can be measured.

  • Digital Compass

Included in the ocean server bundle.

  • Altimeter/Pressure sensor

To be used to measure the depth of Bearacuda, a pressure transducer (MSP-340) will be connected to the OS5500.

  • Thermal Sensor

To monitor the internal temperature during underwater use to avoid overheating. An analog component will be connected to the Sensor MRM to give a value for the temperature.

  • Thermal sensor was removed from the 2009 platform.

SQ-26 Hydrophones have been selected and are being implemented in a 4 hydrophone array, to aid in the multilateration calculations. More details are available in the hydrophone page.
